Today we celebrate “Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Day”. The United Nations General Assembly designated this day to raise awareness of the enormous contribution of MSMEs to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) account for 90% of enterprises, 60-70% of employment and 50% of global GDP. As the backbone of societies around the world, they contribute to local and national economies and sustain livelihoods, particularly among the working poor, women, youth and other vulnerable groups.
MSMEs have the potential to transform economies, foster job creation and promote equitable economic growth if they receive the necessary support. The Day highlights their critical role and explores opportunities for their development.
